Photographer Stories #11: Kristoffer Paulsen 15/10/14

This is Episode 11 of Photographer Stories. This episode I chat to a guy I met online, we couldn’t work out if it was Twitter, Flickr or Instagram, I think it was Instagram but he thinks Flickr. His name is Kristoffer Paulsen. Kris is a photographer here in Melbourne and he invited me over to his new studio space so I could chat to him and so he could take my portrait with his new favourite lighting setup. We ate Pizza and talked about the usual shit, photography, photographers, cameras, asshole gig photographers and lots of other shit. We discovered through the podcast that he also used to work for AWB in Sydney so we chat about that a bit also, sorry, it’s a small country. Enjoy! MRJ.

Photographer Stories #10: Michael James Christian 28/09/2014

This is episode #10 of Photographer Stories. This episode I chat to my very good friend Michael James Christian. I have known Mike since about 2009, one of the first things we did together was visit this abandoned carpark, unfortunately at the time I was shooting with a crappy fisheye lens on a crappy digital camera so I apologise for that, there are some cool film shots to make up for it. Mike also enjoys taking photos of bands and we refer to this image quite a bit, mostly because it was right in front of us, was it a prop? maybe. Michael also mentions his collaborative music project called “A Warm Cup of Assholes“, check it out, it’s funny. As per usual we chat about cameras, photographers, gear and other shot. I left that typo in because of Mike’s kiwi excent. I hope you enjoy it! Cheers, MRJ.

Photographer Stories #9: James Ruff 28/09/2014

Hi. This is episode #9 of Photographer Stories. This episode I talk to a guy I know called James Ruff. I know James through a film shooters group here in Melbourne called the Melbourne Silver Mine, I may have mentioned them once or twice or eleven times before in the podcast. James and I chat about his history with photography, cameras that he has owned and cameras that he wants to own. We also chat in depth about his recent adventure into the Outback with far too many cameras. I had some microphone interference near the end so the last 10 minutes or so are a bit shit. I hope you enjoy it anyway! Cheers, MRJ.

Photographer Stories #7: James Pierce 08/09/14

Hi! This is episode #7 of Photographer Stories. This episode I speak with James Pierce. I have known James or at least known of James since about 2001. Back in the day, when you searched for/lusted after the Hasselblad Xpan online, you got James, one other guy and Hasselblad. James was heavily involved with a website you may have heard of called Red Bubble. We chatted about Red Bubble, photography, cameras and other shit. James tries (and it still trying) to get me to buy a “proper” large format camera. We talk about shooting large format, really large prints and largely, a lot of things photographic. After we chatted he took my portrait using his Ebony large format camera. I hope you enjoy it! Cheers, MRJ.

Photographer Stories #6: Clay Lipsky 30/08/14

Hi. This is episode #6 of Photographer Stories. This episode I talk to fellow photographer Clay Lipsky. You may have heard of him because of two awesome series of photos that he has produced. The first is Atomic Overlook which went viral in a big way and after 2 years is still touring as a photographic exhibition. The other is In Dark Light. We talk about photography, cameras, going viral, the Salton Sea, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, plagiarism, Los Angeles (where he lives) and lots of other shit. Clay is also a fellow Hasselblad Xpan shooter so we talk about that a bit too. I really hope you enjoy it! Cheers, MRJ.

Photographer Stories #4: Craig Nye 26/08/2014

Hi. This is the 4th episode of Photographer Stories. The other night I went over to my friend Craig’s house and we sat down and talked as quietly as humanly possible while still being able to be heard on the recorder and ate tiny ice creams. We talked about cameras mostly, because he’s owned a few, he stopped counting at 74, that’s a good number to stop at. We talked about photography regret, DIGITAL CAMERAS, working in photographic retail and other things photographic too. Craig runs a photography related forum called Sweet Photos Bro, you should check it out. Cheers, MRJ.
